About This Book
This is the second collection book published from Janet Kuypers. The first was Hope Chest in the Attic, a compilation of thirteen years of poetry, prose and artwork.
The Window is a collection is from the past year of her work. Her recent work has changed in a number of ways:
1) The poetry has become more confessional. Even when not about herself, or even when about a fictional character, her recent work has taken on a more confessional tone, as if she as the speaker is telling you an intimate secret about herself.
2) She has made a collection of poetry into a series more regularly. Contained in this volume is a number of series of poems, with the number of poems ranging from three pieces to nine. She uses this method, along with the more confessional voice, to show the depth of the topic without detracting with the individual points raised in each of the works.
3) Her short stories are more in-depth. She has gone into more detail than ever in describing a character, into conveying a feeling about a protagonist.
4) She used to work regularly for an acquaintance rape education group. However, she hasn’t for over two years now, and herwriting has changed because of it. A large portion of herwork used to be devoted to the subject. Less than five pieces in this new book are about rape.
5) Because of her separation from the work in rape education, the writing has covered a wider variety of issues, from childhood to death, from love to separation, from family to loneliness, from wealth to homelessness.
