with the music of HA! live at Gallery Cabaret Francois Le Roux (the HA!man of South Africa) and the Café Gallery host Janet Kuypers performed in a show together (that was nearly a year in the making) at Gallery Cabaret (2020 N. Oakley Ave. in Chicago - one block east of Western Avenue and one block north of Armitage) Wednesday, October 3
Keep in mind that at any time you can also look for all tracks (studio and live) of Janet and Francois in “Chiago to South Africa” (which will also contain these tracks). This event was part of the Seventh Annual Chicago Calling Arts Festival, with events scheduled throughout the month to highlight Chicago artists in live performances collaborating with people from outside of the greater Chicago area. This Janet/Francois show more than applied to this month-long festival, with a Chicago performance artist (Janet) performing a live show with a man from South Africa (Francois), and even had writing talking not only about travel, but also about communication with people around the world (with phrases at one point spoken in English, Spanish, German, Romanian, Polish, Tagalog, Serbian, and even Afrikaans). After the Cathleen Schandelmeier-Bartels introduction to this live show, Francois played some pre-recorded orchestral tracks, to accompany his playing the keyboard (with many additional effects) as well as his cello, to create spontaneous music to all of the pieces Kuypers performed - which included a short story (with an intro by Jeff helgeson) and both old and brand new poetry. During this show, Kuypers also went through multiple costume changes, and even a voice effects filter (so she could sound like a man when she was talking about travel, before she literally stripped into a small silver dress for poetry about relationships). For those who missed this one-of-a-kind performance, below are videos from the October 3, 2012 (10/3/12) live show following the Café Gallery poetry open mic of material from Janet Kuypers, with live impromptu music from Francois le Roux (the HA!Man of South Africa). Most photographs from this event was just posted on a Facebook photo album, but select images are also included at the bottom of this page. (There were also photos taken of Kuypers during a 9/30/12 practiceo session, since Kuypers had props and had to change costume during her show, that are included in a separate facebook photo album, with a very select few images after the show images at the bottom of this page.) |
