St. Paul’s Cultural Center
the final 20 minutes poetry feature on November 5th, 2008
Charlie Newman’s First Friday series of monthly poetry performances was moved to a Wednesday, and the St. Paul’s Cultural Center (2215 W. North Ave., Chicago, just over 2 blocks west of the Damon Blue Line stop, street parking is available, and beer, wine, & soft drinks are available at cool-low prices... and it even had Free Admission). The second time it ever ran at St. Paul’s, the show was performed at the upstairs desanctified church (with a large painting of Jesus Christ behind her, and a large pipe organ to the side while she read her poetry). Janet Kuypers was the final feature for this evening of poetry, performing in a desanctified church on November 5th of 2008. The evening’s performance was scheduled to start at 7:30 in the evening, but probablu began at arounf 7:50, leaving Kuypers’ finale performance to start towards 8:15 in the evening, with probably just over 20 minutes of reading poetry. Kuypers read (per her usual style) many pieces concrening death, but she intersperced her longer pieces with more entertaining shorter poems (to vary the mood of the show during the evening).
Not only was Kuypers highlighted in this poetry evening, but also Tom Curry (who also had free chapbooks and CDs), Elizabeth Harper and Larry O Dean were featured that evening.
Kuypers also released a chapbook of potential poems she would read for this feature, called St. Paul’s
