September 9th, 2008 (09/09/08) The 2008 (annual) feature at the Cafe (5115 North Lincoln Ave., just south of Foster Ave.) for Kuypers was 09/09/08, in the show called “Seeing a Psychiatrist.” Charlie Newman, host of the Cafe, one time host of WZRD’s monthly poetry radio show the Poetry Circus and who also runs a monthly 4-poet art gallery feature live in Chicago, refers to the 09/09/08 show as by “the always inventive, you-never-know-what-to-expect-cuz-she-gat-a-zillion-ideas JANET KUYPERS...our Poetess from the Edge of the World!” And says about this show: “As always... Janet will go pedal to the metal to give us an unforgettable night!” — and Kupers even has in her roster of events during her feature a free giveaway of multiple books and chapbooks! Charlie Newman, the man who usually calls Kuypers “Janet Kuypers, QUEEN OF MULTIMEDIA” (or even the “Czarina of Multimedia”, after witnessing the Conflict•Contact•Control final feature show live at a Charlie Newman DvA art gallery evening) also commented that Kuypers and her shows are a “poet show-stopper par excellence... As he refers to JANET KUYPERS, with a special set to go along with her special poetry!” ... But of this show, Charlie Newman said: “La Kuypers was as innovative as ever! A true show stopper! Helluva feature as always!” For this show, she brought her own amp (as well as speakers for the additional audio voices in the show, and a boom box for coordinated music for the show) and a headphone/earbud microphone, so she could perform in the show without worrying about standing near a microphone on a stand. There was project artwork on a television screen to go with three sets of poems. Unlike past shows where larger television sets for camerawork or larger projected screens for artwork were used, this show will use smaller screens, all centered together with Kuypers, making all points of visual interest in the show focus on one place. This show, titled “Seeing a Psychiatrist,” is set up where Kuypers is wearing thigh-high boots, black shorts and a black t-shirt with a zipper across her chest as her “costume” for this show... About the Author Kuypers is published in books, magazines and on the internet over 6.700 times for writing, and over 2,000 times for art work in her professional career, and has been profiled in such magazines as Nation and Discover U; she was inducted as a Poetry Ambassador during Poetry Month in 2006 & 2007and was nominated as Poet of the Year for 2006 and 2007 by the International Society of Poets. She has also been highlighted on radio stations, including WEFT (90.1FM), WZRD (88.3FM), WSUM (91.7FM), WLS (8900AM), and Q101 (101.9FM); she ran a weekly hour-long Internet Radio show (“Chaotic Radio”) at BZoO.org in 2006 and 2007, and she appeared/appears on the internet radio stations ArtistFirst.com, chicagopoetry.com’s Poetry World Radio and Scars Internet Radio (SIR). She has also appeared on television for poetry in Nashville and Chicago, and was interviewed on her art work on Urbana’s WCIA channel 3 10 o’clock news. Kuypers ran a monthly iPodCast of her work, as well as an Internet radio station (JK Radio, which has now joined with Scars Internet Radio). She has performed spoken word and music across the country — in the spring of 1998 she embarked on her first national poetry tour, with featured performances, among other venues, at the Albuquerque Spoken Word Festival during the National Poetry Slam; her bands have had concerts in Chicago and in Alaska; in 2003 she hosted and performed at a weekly poetry and music open mike (called “Sing Your Life”), and from 2002 through 2005 was a featured performance artist, doing quarterly performance art shows with readings, music and images.
